Law Out of School Care (including North Berwick Playgroup)

Law Out of School Care Network – Law Out of School Care (including North Berwick Playgroup) were awarded a multi-year grant totalling £11,275 in November 2023. The network provides a community approach to childcare for 2–12-year-olds, encompassing a playgroup and out of school club. This three year funding award supported the provision of new equipment and resources to facilitate outdoor play and sports, as well as contributing towards new software, staff recruitment and training.

Additional and longer outdoor sessions were able to be offered at North Berwick Playgroup. These included ‘Muddy Boots’ sessions in the Lodge Grounds in all weather conditions, allowing the children to learn about nature and how to care for the environment, while becoming involved in their local community.

These sessions have fostered a strong sense of curiosity and adventure among the children, who explore the natural world with enthusiasm. The use of new equipment and resources has enhanced these experiences, providing opportunities for imaginative play and physical challenges that build confidence and their knowledge.

Moreover, the funding has allowed investment in staff training, ensuring that the team is equipped with the latest knowledge and best practices in early childhood education. This investment in staff not only improves the quality of sessions but also supports the professional development of team members, creating a positive and nurturing environment for both children and staff.

The children at Law Out of School Care have explored nature, cultivated their own fruits and vegetables, and cared for plants to benefit the environment. The provided equipment has inspired children to venture outdoors and engage in various forms of play. This includes utilising sports equipment that enhances their resilience, teaches them new skills, and helps them forge new friendships.

Some of the funding was put towards new software to support bookings, registrations, monitoring and evaluations – reducing paperwork and increasing efficiency. Recruitment costs such as advertising, induction and training for new members of staff was also supported.
