This new inflatable has proved hugely popular with local school children since it hit the water in September. Available every Friday afternoon after school, it is the perfect activity to round off a busy school week. The aqua-run is also available to book for private parties.
Featuring dual lanes, the commando run is the ultimate aquatic challenge event. Each opponent needs to be quick and nimble, light on their feet, hold their nerve and keep their balance, to get through the various obstacles, reach the end of the AquaRun and generate a splashing great finish to beat their opponent.
Get ready to duck, dive, bob, weave, climb, squeeze, laugh, squeal, slide and splash, and don’t forget to keep a lookout for those lifeguards and their hoses!
By supporting enjoyleisure, the Trust has enabled this amazing piece of play equipment to be available to the community, benefitting the physical and mental wellbeing of our young people.
Although it may look like children are just splashing around, there are very many benefits to aquatic play. Taking on the AquaRun is an exciting and fun-filled physical challenge. Participants need to use their cardio fitness, as well as body strength, to progress across the obstacles. Their balance and coordination skills will be put to the test, and by taking on the challenge they are increasing their stamina and flexibility.
The inflatables are also a means of encouraging young people to consider water safety, assess risk, develop interpersonal and communication skills, and, above all, become aware of their own abilities and build their confidence.
Olwyn Owen, Chair of North Berwick Trust’s Grants Group, said, “We were delighted to be able to fund the AquaRun for North Berwick Sports Centre’s pool as part of the Trust’s Grant Programme. Children and young people have had a really tough time during the pandemic and it’s great to be able to fund something that will bring them such fun and excitement, as well as helping with their fitness.”
Bill Axon, enjoyleisure Chief Executive comments, “As East Lothian’s charitable, health wellbeing and leisure trust, enjoy is committed to providing opportunities for our young people to be physically active. Given the sedentary lifestyle and widespread fascination for gadgets of modern-day children, the lack of physical exercise causes young people to fall short on stamina and flexibility of the body. AquaRuns are a fantastic means of engaging with the pre and early teen audience to encourage them to enjoy being active!
We are very grateful for North Berwick Trust’s support in purchasing this AquaRun, which will allow us to provide dedicated kids fun sessions in our pool in North Berwick.”
As well as being available to hire for birthday parties, the Commando AquaRun will be available at North Berwick Sports Centre on Fridays between 12:30pm-1:30pm from Friday 3rd September onwards. Advance booking is recommended, either by phone 01620 820730 or online via enjoyleisure.com (booking under the participants’ profile).
All participants looking to go onto the AquaRun must be able to swim, and feel confident in the water.
