North Berwick Trust Appoints Professor Hamish Wallace as New Chair

North Berwick Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Hamish Wallace as its new Chair. Professor Wallace takes up his position at the Trust’s AGM on 17th September and will lead the Trust into its next chapter. He succeeds the previous Chair, Sir David Tweedie, whom, together with Vice-Chair Dr Libby Morris, have led the Trust for the past 6 years.

Professor Wallace is a recently retired oncology consultant at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh and was heavily involved in research and teaching at the University of Edinburgh.

He led NHS Scotland’s Managed Service Network for Children and Young People with Cancer and was President of the European Network for Paediatric Hodgkin Lymphoma.

He is well known for his research into preserving fertility for young people with cancer and remains committed to improving the quality of life for young people after cancer.

Having had a long association with North Berwick for many years, Professor Wallace moved to North Berwick 14 years ago and is an active member of the community as President of The Marmion Bridge Club, a member of the west links North Berwick Golf Club, member of the Scottish Seabird Centre and a patron of the Coastal Communities Museum.

“We are honoured that Professor Wallace has agreed to Chair the North Berwick Trust,” said Sir David Tweedie. “His extensive leadership experience combined with his affection for the North Berwick community will elevate our efforts to deliver the Trust’s strategic aims and continue to improve the quality of life for North Berwick residents in an inclusive and equitable manner.”

“I am excited to step into this role at North Berwick Trust which does so much for North Berwick and its community” said Professor Wallace. “I look forward to working closely with our board, staff, volunteers, and supporters to strengthen our impact across the town.”

Under Professor Wallace’s leadership, the Trust seeks to continue to support the community through the Trust’s grant programmes and capital grant funding opportunities.
